A notary public is called upon to perform actions that parties request or are obliged to request. A notary public is a position of public trust entitled to protection measures reserved for public officials. Notary actions, performed in accordance with the law, have the status of official documents. The actions basically take place at the notary’s office; however, exceptions can be made for specific types of notary deeds and other special circumstances.

While performing his or her actions, the notary is responsible for safeguarding the lawfulness of the actions and for protecting the legitimate interest of the parties as well as of all individuals for whom the actions have legal effect.
